Electricity generators Contact and Meridian recently cut, by more than fifty per cent, the electricity price they begin to pay their customers who generate photovoltaic photo-voltaic (PV) electricity (Buy-back nicks dim solar's allure, November 10).
This highlights, firstly, that ENERGY generation costs, which are now according to $1000 per Kw, make ENERGY competitive with conventional renewable energy - and that the major generators more and more fighting it.
Secondly, this power generators response highlights that New Zealand has no strategy for adding PV, onlly one truly non-FOSSIL iPhone 5 case- distributed electricity sort, productively into its electricity system.
To other countries there are feed-in tariffs to make this, and reduce Fossil iPhone case carbon, associated with benefit from PV's much lower generation price ranges.
PV is best used by schools, services and so on that operate during hours of sunlight, where they use most of their ENERGY generation directly.
Because PV is without question generated locally, it does not incur several Transpower national grid charges. Our use of local lines is also little, when selling back to the main grid, as the electricity is used by community consumers.
Given these major characteristics, there must be a neutral referee and fairly address PV generation, instead of just have the law of the jungle dominate.
